The da Vinci Surgical System is a totally "intuitive" laparoscopic surgical robot. It's not a robot in the sense that you would imagine, but it integrates the latest advancements in robotics, computer-enhanced technology and the skills of surgeons. This system is now part of CAMC’s surgical tools, which means the surgeon’s hands are at the control of this state-of-the-art robotic device and can perform the most complex and delicate procedures through very small incisions, with unmatched accuracy.

This breakthrough is allowing hospitals everywhere to extend the benefits of robotic surgery to a broader base of patients. Some of the major benefits experienced by surgeons using the da Vinci Surgical System over traditional approaches have been greater surgical precision, increased range of motion, improved dexterity, enhanced visualization and improved access.

Advantages to the patient are numerous. In most cases, the patient will experience a shorter hospital stay, less pain, less risk of infection, less blood loss, fewer transfusions, less scarring, faster recovery and a quicker return to normal daily activities. None of these benefits can be guaranteed, as surgery can be both patient- and procedure-specific.

Patients routinely travel out of their respective health care markets to receive care at hospitals that offer robotic surgical technology. Now that CAMC has invested in this technology, patients in southern West Virginia won’t have to go so far.

Surgeons currently performing surgeries using the da Vinci system include:

Cardiology

Dr. Geoffrey Cousins

Urology

Dr. J.P. Tierney

Gynecology

Dr. Gina Busch
Dr. Steve Bush

General Surgery

Dr. Ned Tiley
Dr. Bryan Richmond
Dr. Stacey Copeland
