The renal transplant team was recognized for providing health care full of heart and soul to its patients. The staff includes: Reba Huffman, Shari Huffman, Charlene Harless, Lorie Lipscomb, Julie Williams, Alice Jones, Melanie Godden and Jennifer Bragg, collectively called “the team.”

After seven years of treatment, a patient wrote on behalf of fellow transplant patients to praise the team’s care. The patient was nervous and scared when first arriving in the department, but they welcomed this person into their “transplant family” and made the patient feel like the most special patient they’d ever had.

With every patient, they embrace both the patient and their families. They are devoted, always smiling and encouraging, and available day or night.

The patient who nominated the team chose to remain anonymous, because all patients are treated with the same compassion and care.

The patient pointed out the team’s “additional acts” that make this group so special:

  • Honoring the patients through picnics or walks

  • Helping patient families at holidays

  • Standing proudly behind their surgeons

  • Providing education to the community

The patient closed the nomination by stating, “It is a privilege to be cared for by such a fine team of caring professionals. They never wanted to be in the spotlight, but now it is time. This is their moment to shine as the heart and soul of CAMC.”
