CAMC Cancer Patient Support Program The CAMC Cancer Patient Support Program had its inception in 1995, which was made possible by the generous funding of the CAMC Foundation. Since that time, hundreds of cancer patients and their family members have participated in counseling programs offered through the Cancer Patient Support Program. With great appreciation, the CAMC Foundation provided start up funding and has played a vital role in financially supporting CPSP services offered to uninsured/underinsured patients and families. The Cancer Patient Support Program at CAMC plays an essential role in providing comprehensive cancer care with an emphasis on the “human” side of the cancer experience. The role of the mind, body and social support system can greatly influence a patient’s adjustment and subsequently impact their quality of life. The desire of the CPSP is to focus on the “whole” patient, providing services to compliment conventional biomedical treatments. We offer to walk with patients along their journey, from the point of diagnosis through treatment and beyond, offering support and resources to enhance their emotional, social and spiritual well-being. The CPSP offers individual and family psychosocial assessments on an inpatient and outpatient basis. Different modalities of counseling interventions are utilized as needed and include individual, family, marital and group counseling. We also can provide cancer patients and their families with psycho-educational resources to help the patient adjust to the realities of the illness. The CPSP has also offered psycho-educational support groups to nurses and staff members to better meet the needs of the clinical oncology staff. Patients are seen at all three CAMC locations, in the Ambulatory Infusion Center and in the David Lee Outpatient Cancer Center. The program accepts payment for certain services through most insurance providers; however, grant services are sought for indigent care patients.
