The CAMC Health System was created in 1984 to meet the challenges of providing high-tech, health services to West Virginians, thereby pulling together seven hospitals with a history of community service dating back to 1895.

Charleston Area Medical Center Health System, Inc. is the non-profit parent corporation of multiple hospitals and health care companies which include:

  • Charleston Area Medical Center — Established in 1972, CAMC is the state's largest and most advanced medical center with more than 5,000 employees. As the flagship of the CAMC Health System, CAMC is a non-profit, 893-bed, regional referral and academic medical center. CAMC has three Charleston locations: General Hospital, Memorial Hospital and Women and Children's Hospital.

  • CAMC Teays Valley Hospital CAMC Teays Valley Hospital is a non-profit, 68-bed hospital located in Hurricane, WV. It is owned and operated by CAMC Teays Valley Hospital Inc., a subsidiary of CAMC Health System Inc.

  • Charleston Area Medical Center Foundation — Created in 1976, the foundation is the  fund-raising organization for the CAMC Health System. They fund advanced medical research and education, health programs and services unique to the state, as well as care for indigent patients. Donors to the foundation are committed to ensuring excellent and compassionate health care remains available to southern West Virginians.

  • CAMC Health Education and Research Institute — Coordinates the medical education of more than 100 third-and fourth-year medical students, and provides continuing education for hundreds of medical and health care professionals through live conferences, seminars, workshops, teleconferences and on-site programs. They also offer a broad range of community education programs.

  • Integrated Health Care Providers Inc.— IHCP is a non-profit, multi-specialty medical practice including family practice, pediatrics, maxillofacial surgery, and urgent care.

Companies affiliated with CAMC Health System include:

  • HealthNet — a statewide aeromedical service coordinated through a joint venture among CAMC, West Virginia University Hospitals, Inc. and Cabell-Huntington Hospitals. Each hospital serves as home base for a med-evac helicopter.

  • Partners in Health Network — aligns participating hospitals (including CAMC), health clinics and county health departments. Partners in Health members are located in 17 counties. 

  • Robert C. Byrd Health Sciences Center of West Virginia University/Charleston Division — a branch of the Morgantown-based medical school and has been a part of CAMC’s Memorial Hospital campus since 1972. More than 100 third-and fourth-year WVU medical students and more than 100 CAMC residents, supervised by WVU faculty, choose to continue their education in Charleston each year.
