About usAs
Charleston Area Medical Center volunteers, our mission is to serve as
support for patients, families and hospital staff, and to provide a caring,
comforting and courteous environment. Making
a difference Volunteers make a difference, and CAMC volunteers make a difference every day. Each volunteer is a valuable resource to the department in which they serve. Volunteers offer support and time to patients and staff, making a stay at CAMC a more pleasant experience. In 2008, our volunteers contributed more than 29,000 combined hours to our three hospitals. In
a variety of ways Volunteers may not perform clinical duties, however volunteers are qualified for an assortment of other helpful tasks. CAMC volunteer positions serve CAMC General, CAMC Memorial and CAMC Women and Children’s hospitals in patient areas, public areas and in office settings. Volunteers assist in departments such as sports medicine, renal transplant and neonatal intensive care (NICU). They meet and greet patients and the public in places such as the flower desk at each hospital, General’s cheer cart and the volunteer office. Volunteers can also be found behind the scenes assisting with projects and tasks in areas such as human resources, pharmacy or the Health Information Center. A few key areas that we have a current need for volunteers: CAMC General Hospital - Flower desk - Mail desk - Cheer cart CAMC Memorial Hospital - Flower desk - Mail desk - Patient concern -
Welcome desk at the new CAMC Robert C. Byrd Clinical Teaching Center CAMC Women and Children’s Hospital - Neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) - Emergency department - Pediatrics Auxiliary The purpose of the auxiliary is
