The Ambulatory Infusion Center (AIC) provides outpatient services for patients requiring infusion therapies for acute conditions such as infection, and supportive care for chronic illnesses such as cancer, multiple sclerosis, renal failure and hemophilia, among others. One of our specialties is care and maintenance of central IV catheters. We offer Peripherally Inserted Central Catheter (PICC) insertion for patients needing infusion therapy lasting a week or more, either at home with a home care agency or here in our department. For those who have had difficulty receiving IV placement in the past, we have the latest ultrasound technology to assist with placement of PICC lines, preventing more costly and complicated surgical IV insertion.
Hours of operation
The AIC team works collaboratively with the staff at CAMC Cancer Center to ensure treatment will be uninterrupted when the CAMC Cancer Center is closed. Your infusion center nurses understand that you may have family, work or other responsibilities to consider while fighting cancer and will work hard to accommodate your scheduling needs. The AIC is open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, and from 8 a.m. to noon on the weekends and major holidays. The staff at David Lee Cancer Center will arrange for you to be cared for at AIC when needed. When you arrive for your appointment
On the day of your visit, you will need to arrive 30 minutes prior to your appointment time in the admitting office at the main entrance of Memorial Hospital to register. A registration clerk will guide you to the AIC if you are unfamiliar with its location. When you arrive in the AIC, you’ll sign in and be seated in a comfortable waiting area. Our unit secretary will ask for your paperwork and notify the nurses that you are present. Next, you will be escorted to either a room or a cubicle where you will receive treatment. Throughout your stay, the AIC team wants you to feel at home. Please let them know how they may make your experience the best possible.
