Samuel Deem, DO, recently completed the first known robotic cystectomy (bladder removal) with robotic ileal conduit on a patient with a kidney transplant and history of prostate radiation. The urology cancer team, which includes urologists, medical oncologists, radiologists, radiation oncologists, and kidney transplant surgeons, carefully discussed the best treatment options and approach.

"The complexity of the case is evidence of the increasing skill and experience of CAMC’s urology robotic team," said Cordell Davis, DO, chief urology resident at CAMC.

The da Vinci Surgical System provides advanced capabilities that allow surgeons to perform complex procedures with greater accuracy through tiny incisions. Robotic-assisted surgery allows surgeons to perform a wide range of urologic procedures through 1 to 2 centimeter incisions while achieving equal, or better, clinical outcomes.
