Lisa Franco Each quarter we honor an employee with a humanitarian award.

The humanitarian category of Heart and Soul recognizes employees for acts of kindness and charity who contribute to enhancing and promoting the welfare of humanity in the community, nation or world.

Lisa Franco works in transport in the EKG Lab at Memorial.

Franco was transporting a patient to have an EKG, and while talking with the lady discovered she was terminal with cancer and was only given a few weeks to live.

The patient also told Franco that she had no family or friends.

So Franco took it upon herself to visit the patient multiple times a day to check in on her. Franco got her anything she needed and took her outside for fresh air whenever possible.

The more they talked, the more they realized they knew a lot of the same people. And digging deeper they found out they were actually related.

The patient was so grateful that she had someone she could be close to before she passed away.

She had a leather bag that she basically had lived her life out of. She told the nurses she wanted Franco to have it and everything in it.
