Cheryl Kauffelt, open heart recovery unit, was recognized for the care she provided for a long term patient.
Last November the patient underwent urgent open heart surgery and developed multiple complications.
One of the biggest obstacles during this time was the patient did not speak English and had little family support.
Over the course of 3 months, Cheryl has learned the language of the patient and communicated with what family is available. She came in daily (on days off) to sit and visit with this patient and check on his progress.
She went beyond the doctor's orders for the physical care and has developed a lasting bond with this patient.
