David Aultz is the dayshift attendant in the emergency department at Women and Children's Hospital.
The ED received a special pediatric patient by EMS without a guardian. This patient had multiple social and medical issues and could not be left alone.
Aultz stayed with this patient for 4 to 5 hours ensuring the patient's safety as well as the safety of the staff and other patients in the emergency department.
Aultz took the time to walk and pull the patient around in the wagon; helping him feel more comfortable and secure by allowing him out of his room.
This patient was not able to communicate verbally, but showed great joy and excitement by smiling and clapping after being pulled around the ED in the wagon by Aultz.
