Shirley McMillion and Ashley Waybright from surgery at Memorial Hospital were recognized because these two nurses didn't stop caring for a family when a patient died while in the operating room.

The patient's wife was left here alone, more than 150 miles from home.

stayed with Shirley and helped make the required arrangements for the patient.

McMillion was able to stay with the wife so that she would not be alone after being told of her husband's unanticipated death.

They were able to secure the wife a room at the Medical Center Inn and drove the wife to the motel and made sure she was settled before leaving her.

McMillion and Waybright not only showed compassion, but ensured the wife's safety by providing the grieving widow with shelter, provisions and emotional support until she was able to drive home and be with her family.
