For more than 15 years, staff RNs at Charleston Area Medical Center have had the opportunity to receive recognition and additional compensation through a four-tiered Clinical Career Ladder.
Graduate nurses may initially “challenge” the Ladder after completing their first full year of employment. By advancing to the level of Clinical Nurse II, an RN’s base rate of pay is increased by
$1.60 per hour, which is the equivalent of $3,328.00 annually, based on full-time employment. Advancement to the Clinical Nurse III level results in an additional hourly rate increase of
$2.30, or $4,784.00 on an annual, full-time basis. The highest level attainable is Clinical Nurse IV. Those reaching this stage of the Clinical Career Ladder are rewarded with an additional hourly rate increase of
$2.80, which equals $5,824.00 per year, on a full-time basis.
At CAMC, advancing the Clinical Career Ladder recognizes and rewards excellence in nursing care at the patient bedside and thereby demonstrates the commitment of CAMC and its nursing staff to providing the best and most advanced care in the region.
