Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there is a shortage of personal protective equipment (PPE). CAMC is asking volunteers who have the ability to sew to make masks.
If you are not able to sew, we will accept donations of clean and new 100% cotton fabric and elastic that can be used for ear loops.
If you are using a 3D printer, we are accepting donations of 3D printed face shields.
Due to the overwhelming response of the community, Volunteer Services has decided to move the Mask Making Program from the multiple CAMC locations to a single location.
Starting on Tuesday, March 24, the main location for mask and material drop offs will be at the former CAMC Lighthouse Childcare & Development Center located on 3410 Virginia Ave, Charleston, WV 25304. The center will be open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Saturday. As of March 31, we are still accepting mask and supply donations.
If you are unable to make it to the center, the following locations are still accepting mask donations.
CAMC Teays Valley Human Resources - 1200 Hospital Drive - Putnam Medical Plaza, First Floor Lobby Hurricane, WV 25526
Elizabeth Memorial United Methodist Church - 108 Oakwood Rd, Charleston, WV 25314
Bible Center Church - 100 Bible Center Dr, Charleston, WV 25309
Blessed Sacrament Church 305 E Street, South Charleston, WV 25303
River Ridge Church Teays Valley - 1 Saturn Way, Hurricane, WV 25526
If you would like to mail in masks that you have made, please send them to:
CAMC Volunteer Services
501 Morris St.
Charleston, WV 25301
Please note that the pattern requires 100% cotton material.
Visit this link for the instructions and materials needed to make the masks: https://www.craftpassion.com/face-mask-sewing-pattern/. If elastic is unavailable for ear loops, it is acceptable for ties to be made from the fabric.
We have a supply of fabric and a new supply of elastic. If you are committed to making masks, you are welcome to pick up these supplies at the Lighthouse, from 9 a.m.-1 p.m., Monday through Saturday. This is available while supplies last.
Q: Do I need to use the pattern in the link above?
A: We are accepting masks made from any pattern. We recognize that there are multiple patterns available for mask-making. The one on our site is just a sample. Please feel free to use any mask pattern you choose, as long as it covers nose and mouth.
Q: Do I need to use elastic for the ear loops?
A: We realize that there is a shortage of elastic. If you don’t have elastic or cannot find it, please feel free to use any other method of securing the masks to the face. Most people are choosing to use fabric or binding to make fabric ties to tie the masks.
Q: Is there a size requirement for the made masks?
A: We are accepting masks made of all sizes.
If you have a question that isn't listed, please complete the request form and ask your question there.
