Dr.
James Cox is a board certified orthopedic surgeon with special
interests and training in joint replacement surgery and shoulder
surgery. He is qualified to treat a wide variety of musculoskeletal
injuries and diseases. His scope of practice ranges from treatment
of arthritis to pediatric orthopedics, to occupational and sports
medicine.
Dr.
Cox is a
West Virginia
native, born in
Logan
. He makes his home in the same
Teays
Valley
community in which he practices. His children attend local Christian
schools, and his wife, Susan, is a registered nurse and native of
Barboursville. Community interests are strong in his practice.
He
regularly provides orthopedic care to local school athletic
programs, sponsorship for area sports teams, and community seminars
on important topics such as arthritis and osteoporosis. He has

Dr.
Cox excelled in his medical education and clinical training. He
finished second in his medical class at the West Virginia School of
Osteopathic Medicine in 1993. He finished an internship program at
Logan
General
Hospital
with honors, and then completed his orthopedic surgery residency at
Ohio
University
in
Dayton
,
OH
.
Dr.
Cox finished orthopedic board certification examinations in the
upper echelon, and now serves as an examiner for new candidates for
orthopedic board certification. He remains active in academics,
regularly providing orthopedic lectures at state medical society
meetings, physician special interest meetings and community
functions. He provides clinical training to interns, as well as
medical, nursing, surgical technology, physician assistant,
EMS
and physical therapy students.
Dr.
Cox brings much of the latest knowledge in the field of orthopedics

and the surrounding communities. He is certified in three of the
most recent advances in orthopedic surgery: cartilage replacement
surgery, minimal incision total hip and knee replacement surgery,
and unicompartmental total knee replacement surgery. Additionally,
arthroscopic surgeries of the shoulder, elbow, wrist, knee and ankle
are primary features of his practice.

. Minimally invasive joint surgery can be performed here with

Dr.
Cox’s commitment to helping those in need extends well beyond the

year he can be found traveling with the Hanna Project. He has
completed missions work providing care to those in need around the
world in places like Ivory Coast, Africa and teaching medical
techniques to physicians in underserved areas such as
Morocco.
