CAMC Volunteers serve as support for patients, families, and hospital staff, and to provide a caring, comforting, and courteous environment.
In the spotlight
Lenora Helper celebrated 20 years of volunteering for CAMC during the month of February. Her dedication as a volunteer in the Wig Shop, formerly known as the Wig Wam, at CAMC’s Memorial Hospital has touched the lives of many women and children who have lost their hair due to cancer treatments. In addition, her service has made a lasting impression on the families of these patients, the staff of CAMC and her fellow volunteers.

Lenora was the first full-time volunteer to over see the Wig Shop. She can be found there at least one day a week logging more than 5,500 hours in her time at CAMC. Her work at the Wig Shop includes maintaining the stock of free wigs for patients of the David Lee Cancer Center. Funding for these wigs comes from Memorial’s Volunteer Auxiliary and private donations. Lenora also spends time cleaning and styling wigs and contributes time educating patients about these services at cancer support group meetings. Click here for entire story

Women and Children’s volunteer is recipient of AWVHA Award

Each year, the Auxiliary West Virginia Hospital Association accepts applications from each of its districts for the Volunteer of the Year. Jeanette Alexander was selected as the Volunteer of the Year for the Southwestern District.

Jeannette began her duties by working in the gift shop at CAMC Women and Children’s in 1998. She works in the admitting department assisting the staff with chart preparation, filing and other clerical duties. She is always willing to step in when another volunteer is ill and is cooperative with her co-workers and supervisors at all times.

You can always call on her to talk over problems, solutions and new ideas. She always gives an honest answer. She has served Women and Children’s auxiliary for the last eight years as treasurer and is also the current AWVHA board treasurer. Jeanette can be found organizing, setting up and working at each of the auxiliary fundraisers held at Women and Children’s through out the year.
Jeanette is dedicated to making the hospital a better place and learning new knowledge about volunteer endeavors around the state. Congratulations, Jeanette!
