The Outpatient Surgery Center at CAMC General Hospital opened in September 2017 and celebrates these milestones:

  • Approximately 2,500 cases were completed in the first 11 months.
  • It is the first OR in West Virginia to offer Rezum® water vaporization therapy for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).  Drs. James P. Tierney, Ryan Fitzwater and Samuel Deem are certified to perform the procedure.
  • The center expanded its specialties this year to include ENT, retina and pediatrics in addition to urology, orthopedics, plastics, ophthalmology and oral-maxillofacial surgery.
  • 50 percent or more of the center's eligible staff are CNOR certified for the operating room.
  • The center worked with patients to decrease the cancellation rate by 20 percent.
  • The staff developed an algorithm to expedite patient care from ER to surgery if patients meet the criteria for outpatient surgery.
  • The center currently operates three ORs.
