The Outpatient Surgery Center at CAMC General Hospital opened in September 2017 and celebrates these milestones:
Approximately 2,500 cases were completed in the first 11 months.
It is the first OR in West Virginia to offer Rezum® water vaporization therapy for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). Drs. James P. Tierney, Ryan Fitzwater and Samuel Deem are certified to perform the procedure.
The center expanded its specialties this year to include ENT, retina and pediatrics in addition to urology, orthopedics, plastics, ophthalmology and oral-maxillofacial surgery.
50 percent or more of the center's eligible staff are CNOR certified for the operating room.
The center worked with patients to decrease the cancellation rate by 20 percent.
The staff developed an algorithm to expedite patient care from ER to surgery if patients meet the criteria for outpatient surgery.
