The CAMC Foundation’s Run for Your Life 5 - mile Run and 2.5 -mile Walk raised a record breaking $26,360 for colorectal cancer screening and awareness. The event was very well attended with 271 runners and walkers crossing the finish line. Colon cancer is the third deadliest cancer in the nation. West Virginia has the highest mortality rate from colon cancer with the lowest screening rate in the country. If we could increase screenings enough that stage III cancers were actually diagnosed at stage I, we would see an increase in survival rates of about 23 percent or 35 lives per year. Many more lives could be saved by understanding colon cancer risks, increasing screening rates and making lifestyle changes. Special thanks to our long-time supporters, Frost Brown and Todd LLC, AT&T, MCS Construction and Pepsi.
