Amy Deipolyi, MD, PhD, FSIR, Interventional Radiologist, has brought an alternative procedure to women without undergoing major surgery.
Uterine artery embolization is a minimally invasive therapy performed through a small catheter placed in the arteries that supply the uterus.
This alternative to a hysterectomy is performed to treat vaginal bleeding, pelvic pain and urinary incontinence due to uterine fibroids and adenomyosis. The optimal patient is over 35 years old and does not wish to have children.
Below are links to hear Dr. Deipolyi talk in depth about uterine artery embolization and if you might be a candidate, as well as links to a couple of patients sharing their experience with the procedure.
