The Mary Free Bed/Vandalia Health CAMC General Hospital inpatient rehab unit recently cared for a patient who had suffered a severe crushing pelvis injury.
He is a young man who was also expecting his first baby. This team jumped into action to make sure he could be there for the birth of the baby.
Due to a fixation device on his pelvis, this team worked days in advance of the scheduled c-section to ensure safe transport and monitoring so that he could be present during the delivery.
The patient and his family were overwhelmed because they did not anticipate he would be able to be there.
Due to the thoughtful, compassionate planning and care of this team coordination between hospitals and transport he was able to be there to support his wife and hold his newborn son.
