Amy Thornton

Amy Thornton is a nurse on 6 South, Vandalia Health CAMC General Hospital.

Recently, Thornton went above and beyond for a patient and his family in a way that demonstrates extraordinary kindness and commitment to patient-centered care.

The patient, who lives out of state, was admitted to CAMC General Hospital. His wife was traveling in to be with him, and Thornton learned of her arrival plans.

On her day off, Thornton drove to the airport with a welcome sign to greet the patient’s wife and drove her to the hospital so she could be by her husband’s side.

This act of generosity was not part of Thornton’s job description; it was a heartfelt gesture that provided comfort and support to a family far from home.

The patient and his wife expressed that they have received the best care they have ever experienced at any hospital, and credited Thornton and the entire 6 South team for playing a major role in that exceptional experience.

Thornton’s selflessness and dedication show how one person’s kindness can make a profound difference in the lives of patients and their families.
