Belinda Lively works in CAMC Behavioral Medicine and Psychiatry.

One day, she received a call no one ever wants to hear – a patient was actively suicidal and describing self-harming behavior.

Lively immediately became a lifeline. With incredible calm and deep compassion, she kept the patient talking, asking the right questions, offering steady reassurance and making sure they knew they weren’t alone. All the while, a colleague contacted the on-call physician to coordinate an emergency response.

Because of Lively’s quick thinking, steady voice and unwavering care, EMS reached the patient’s home in time to get them to the hospital, where they received urgent help they desperately needed.
