A patient who was admitted to cardiopulmonary ICU requested to marry his partner of 25 years.
The patient had recently received a dire cancer diagnosis, so there was a sense of urgency to fulfill his request as soon as possible.
The care team worked diligently to overcome barriers, and within two days was able to coordinate a beautiful ceremony, complete with flowers, balloons and other decorations.
Matt Friend, Director of Spiritual Care, officiated the ceremony in the patient’s room.
CPICU staff worked to decorate the room with flowers and balloons and nutrition services provided a cake for the couple.
The patient and his wife were incredibly grateful for the employees that worked together to make sure their wishes were fulfilled.
