Edward Hines works in Radiology at Women and Children’s Hospital.
Hines went above and beyond for a pediatric patient needing an urgent abdominal MRI under anesthesia.
At the time the order was placed, the device used to monitor patients while they are in the MRI machine under anesthesia was not working so staff made arrangements to transfer the patient to General Hospital the next morning.
Hines coordinated with radiology at General Hospital to obtain a piece of equipment from an unused monitor to see if it was compatible with the monitor at Women and Children’s Hospital.
He drove to General after his shift to pick up the needed part and tested it to make sure it worked.
He then updated anesthesia, the pediatric resident and the floor nurse to proceed with the MRI as planned.
Staff were able to successfully complete the MRI under anesthesia and obtain critical information needed for diagnosis.
Hines’ selfless act resulted in a better transition and care plan for the child and his family.
