James Campbell, II, MD, has been appointed president of CAMC Institute for Academic Medicine, effective July 1.
In this role, Dr. Campbell will lead the Institute's strategic direction and operations across its core areas: graduate medical education, research, continuing education and training. His leadership will support Vandalia Health's academic initiatives and build on the health system’s strong foundation of medical education and research excellence.
“CAMC has been my academic and clinical home for over 20 years, and I cannot be more thankful for the opportunity to lead the CAMC academic mission," Campbell said. "I am looking forward to doing my best to continue the legacy of academic excellence built by Ms. Sharon Hall and Dr. Doug Knutson’s leadership. I am also thankful for the support of Mr. Dave Ramsey and CAMC leadership throughout my career and am looking forward to all we will accomplish in the future.”
An alumnus of the Marshall University Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine, Dr. Campbell began his career at Vandalia Health Charleston Area Medical Center in 2003 as an Internal Medicine resident. Since then, he has held numerous roles in the organization, including faculty positions in the Internal Medicine and Surgery departments. In 2021, he was named chair of the Institute’s Internal Medicine department.
