Riley Sisco, a health unit coordinator in the medical ICU at General Hospital, was nominated twice for going the extra mile to help a mother say goodbye to her dying son.

The patient's mother did not have transportation and was unable to come to the hospital to be with the patient. Staff kept in close contact by phone with the family as the patient's condition declined throughout the night.

The family was waiting for a bus when staff started CPR and other advanced life support to keep the patient alive until family could get to the hospital.

Sisco volunteered and, with permission, left to pick up the mother who only lived a few miles away so she could see her dying son. The patient did regain a pulse and the mother was able to be with the patient for a short time while he was alive.
